ECU harnesses do not fail very often unless the original factory harness was
cut to install an aftermarket accessory like a theft deterrent device or
audio system. I would be surprised if a new harness fixes the problem. I
would check more likely causes before I even looked at the harness.
An engine needs 3 things to run, all at the appropriate times and
proportions: air, fuel, and a source of ignition.
As ransley suggested, look under the distributor cap and rotor to see if
there is any oil in the distributor housing. It should be dry. If there is
oil in the housing, check the distributor shaft O-ring.
Also, when was the last time the spark plugs, ignition wires, cap, and rotor
were replace and what parts were used?
If there is no spark, check the ignition coil.
The price to replace the exhaust depends on the prevailing labor rate in
your area and whether the parts are OEM or aftermarket. $500 seems about
right for a complete exhaust system, not including the catalytic converter.
