New tires for an Outback?

I have the Toyo Proxes TPT in a 2003 Outback. Great for all conditions
in FL, but no snow here. My friend liked them so much, he just got a
set of the same tires for his 2001.

The tires were about $90 each installed and balanced.

I got the triple treads for my 04 Forester, great tire, probably the best
all around tire I've driven. I live on the vancouver Island, lots of rain,
some snow etc. Take the Forester skiing all the time and never a problem.
Check out Tirerack.com and check the ratings for yourself, The trple treads
are THE TOP all-season tire on their lists, even beat the Michelin
Hydroedge.

I have not driven my Triple Treads through a winter but know people who have
and as I do they swear by them.

These are the best tires I have yet owned.

If you have discount tire stores out there I think they have a
trial/guarantee that you will like the tires.

I'm biased toward Goodyear. TripleTred's are your best option. If you
want to save a few bucks, I recommend the Regatta II's. That's what we
have on our OBW and love them.

I have put 20,000 miles on them and can sum them up in one word: WOW! What a
difference. With my old tires, I had to turn up the stereo once I got on the
freeway. I don't even touch the dial now. You will not believe how quiet
these tires are. I used to think the reason I felt every crack in a road was
the Outback's stiffer suspension. The difference with these tires is
incredible. I took a tight circle freeway offramp with a 20 mph speed limit
at 40 mph and the car took the turn better than going 20 mph with the old
tires. Where I used to get a side lean in a corner, these tires hold solid
and make cornering effortless. I was driving down the freeway going from
dry road to heavy showers and could feel no difference - and the traction
was solid.

The amazing thing is how they do up in the mountains. I have had the tires
in snow, ice and combo of slush and ice. I was amazed how well these tires
gripped in all these conditions. I also had them in 14 inches of snow last
hunting season... though I did chain the fronts to be on the safe side.
They have get up and go traction on snow and ice, but no real bite if trying
to stop on sheer ice.

The only negative comment, though I am not sure if it is the tire, is if I
go at about 63 on certain type of roads, I do get a slight vibration in the
steering wheel. I took it in to have an alignment, they told me it was
probably a balance issue, especially if you consider how many miles I ended
up getting with the old tires (110,000 miles). I had about 15,000 on the
tire and took them in to be balanced. I noticed that they added/adjusted
weights on three of them... not really sure what is normal. The vibration
is a little less now, but at certain speeds and road conditions I still get
a slight vibration... but my car does have over 130,000 miles on it now.

I would definitely recommend these tires.... they will make your Outback
feel like a sports car and are very smooth and quiet.
