Mid-fifty ford f-100 with Chevy 350:
I have the dreaded slipping tranz...

1st off an overdrive would be nice (700R4), but is it worth it?
Would a stock 700R4 trans hold up well to ~300hp

I am leaning towards a rebuilt TH350 for simplicity sake.

700R4's were built for both six abd V8 cars and trucks. Yes they will
hold up (if you buy the right rebuild). Personally, I think the gear
spread sux. The hassle with the lockup and heat dissipation is another
issue. Plus, if your engines performance envelope is outside the
optimum axle gearing for the overdrive, you'll be lugging the engine and
wasting fuel..
