It's terrible! I'm in the US with the long warranty. Lots of things go
wrong. Door locks, catalytic converter, etc. They're covered under the
warranty but it takes at least a day to get them fixed... more often than
not, a day and a half.

What is it that you want to know. That is actually a good turn around.

I wish people actually knew what goes on in a Dea;ership Shop. It would make things so much easier.

Your car is not the only car there to get fixed. On an average day at our shop there are 56-75 cars a day that come through for oil changes, sevices, warranty work, etc. Then we only have 13 Technicians.

So on an average they each have 4-6 cars each in 8 hours. Then you have one guy doing an engine and another on a tranny. That is 8-10 cars that are put on the remaining Techs, because the other 2 are on a 12 hour jobs, that has to be done by the following day.

So figure that out, put yourself in our situation. This is the reason for a Shuttle Car or Van to take you to work and pick you up, so that we have time to fix your car. If you want to sit and wait that is your fault.

So please do me a favor and this is not directed at you personally. But no matter were you go or what Make of car you might have, you will have the same problem everywhere you go. Unless it is a very simple thing like changing a light bulb, or an oil change.

Don't judge if you don't know what goes on.

I was very grateful that I got a free rental car for a day long procedure, if you read my post you will see that a simple oil change and check a problem turned into a $900. didn't fix the problem. My dealer needs reprimanded personally by kia. I wanted to buy another one...until I received this horrible bill and dead battery not diagnosed!! I have had worse problems with 2 new fords..I wouldn't buy another ford if they were buy one get one free!! Maybe these salesman standing in an empty lot could be crosstrained on simple things to improve the time , and quality of service! They might actually get repeat business that way! 10 salesman and no buyers...terrible management!!!

My point is that the service at KIA in my area is very poor. It's
unfortunate that you didn't understand that. You are fortunate that you've
had such superlative service from your vehicle.

Apparently many of you haven't had experiences with other brands including Toyota, Honda and Nissan along with GM, Ford and Chrysler. Coming from a background with Nissan Corp, I can assure you no one company is perfect although some do better than others. I rank my own Kia dealership a 5-stars for quality of staff and technical expertise. Fortunately since 2002 I have had no problems with my Optima and continue to enjoy it as one of the best cars I have ever owned.

A good dealership is critical to customer satisfaction more than some corporate involvement. It is the dealer that a customer sees regularly. Do complain to Kia corporate about your bad experiences as well as here on the forum. At the same time be fair with judging all Kias or dealers as bad when that isn't the case at all.

I am glad you have had good service, I did and still like my kia just not the crappy service dept. I had no problems until 10/2005 I've had my car since 04/2001

I have an 02 sportage. I took it in for the 90K mile service and it
developed an oil leak shortly thereafter. I took it to Jiffy Lube for
a regular oil change. They said the drain plug was stripped when I
brought it in, and they were unable to find a fitting plug. They
tightened it as best they could and I took it to the dealer. The
dealer charged me almost 400.00 for parts and labor to change out the
oil pan, though it was fine before I brought it in. That's the long
story made short anyway. It was the dealer in Tampa, FL on Dale Mabry
Highway. I will never purchase another Kia or take it to them for
service. They are inept there in my opinion. It took 2 days to
replace, BTW, because they didn't have parts in stock, though it's a
huge dealership... go figure...

I found my input speed sensor retaining clip for the electrical harness
busted and basically just pushed onto the sensor. The ONLY people that would
have touched that thing was the dealer. I got the broken clip as an extra
for paying stupid dealer-prescribed labor on something that I've later
replaced in 20 minutes.
Can't go back there again unfortunately.

Again this is the reason I have never allowed anyone to change my oil and filter
since the wife asked me to let a Nissan dealer do the job back in 90. Up to that
time I always did it myself at home. Well after they over filled and I had old
oil dripping on my drive from a none clean up by this worthless dealer I again
started doing the job myself. Been doing it on my 82 Bronco 98 Maxima and 03 Kia
Sorento. I try real hard to stay away from any dealers service Dept. All you
really needed was a oversized self tapping drain plug (around $2) that you could
have bought at at any auto supply store like PepBoys or AutoZone. They are very
common as many dealers and quicklubs employ really stupid people to do the oil
changing and many oil pans get their plugs stripped.

I advise anyone who is having problems with service to contact their states attorney general office. You can do this online in Ohio.. file your complaint and even read the laws that apply to these service departments. If enough people take this action maybe some of these bad service depts. will be out of business or cleanup their act. The attorney general handles consumer protection, you will be able to try to get your problems resolved with help from your state. Most people are unaware of this fact.
