Archived from groups: alt>autos>studebaker (more info?)

I was chatting to a guy today that has to move some of his cars because of
city regs.
#1. 1948 4 door good condition.
#2. 1963 4 door Lark 259 3speed O/D good condition.
#3. 1953 champion coupe not hard top also good condition.
#4. Champ pickup with wide box I guess 63/64 V8 column shift.

All are good drivable cars. Only the Lark I believe is not registered.
He said that he would take 3K for the Lark, 3K for the 48,
4K for the 53, and he didn't say how much for the Champ.

He also has a 53 hardtop, another 48 and a flight hawk but these were stored
inside.
I saw many other car including two Lotus Elites, a Citroen, and a Nash
Metropolitan.
I believe he only wants to part with the Studes that are outside.

Contact: Ray Smith (626) 969-0144 cell: (626) 253-7348

If I go past in the next few days I will try to get some photos.

It sounds to me like he has been there a long time. First off I would
suggest to you that you give him another call to make sure that he has
researched the city regs. If he existed there with his toys before the
regs and or was recently annexed he is probably being jerked around by
some city employee. The best thing to do befor getting rid of toys is
to confirm what is what instead of just following some order from some
beurocrat.

I had not seen any of these cars before a few weeks ago. I used to go to the
Costco opposite the VW parts place, where he has them stored, and had not
seen them. I'm sure you are similar to myself when I say that I can spot a
Studebaker from about half a mile away. He moved them there some time in the
last few months otherwise I would have spotted them. Three Studebakers
parked together in a parking lot is a very uncommon site these days. The
problem appears to be that the store frontage has room for a few customer
cars to be parked. He is using that area to store these Studebakers. It
could also be that he has to many projects and a little pushing from the
city has made him realize that.

Let me expand on the "good condition" from my perspective.
It means that the car is complete, roadworthy, and you would not have to do
anything to the car if you wanted to drive it around. It might not win a
show but with some polishing and extra work it could be. Like I said all but
the Lark are legally registered and drivable. The only rust I saw was in the
bottom of a door on the Lark and from what I understood the Lark was the
only non Californian car, it came from Texas.
