s40 aircon/hesitation

i have a 2001 y s40 1.8 (volvo engine) and have a wierd one.when switching the aircon on either by demisting the screen or manually,the engine note and feel changes noticably.i am in the trade and am aware that a/c loads the motor but this is different,it actually feels as though the engine is running lean or retarded,it hesitates and if your cruising and switch on the a/c you can feel it holding back.swith off and it clears.its like the coil packs are arcing,that feeling.ive had it code read by an ind specialist with the propper software and no codes were stored.can anyone help.we heard the ecu"s had a program update but that didnt help.other than this it goes lovely w/o aircon and is very good on fuel.any ideas

I would suspect your a/c needs a recharge, as its sapping more power than
normal with a partial charge. I had exactly the same thing on our S70- a
huge power drain whilst the compressor was engaged. A recharge, and its much
better.
