Archived from groups: rec>autos>rod-n-custom (more info?)

I just read a post in another group that the guy was wondering why his
starter failed after 13 years and called it a piece of GM junk and then
proceeded to say how he had a vehicle with 298,000 and never changed the
auto-tranny fluid and says it works fine and doesn't even have a cooler
installed ,it was because of people like this that destroyed their
vehicles and then would bring it in to get fixed and then yell and
scream because I'm trying to rip them off because they destroyed the
vehicle by not getting the necessary maintenance done and doing the
necessary repairs so they would do the next best thing disconnect the
trouble light(I'm not kidding and more than once people has done this)
I'm sure everyone out there has their horror stories with cars so lets
hear them
one of my worst is seeing the woman that brought her car in and she had
literally put a rubber hose with clamps to patch a BRAKELINE ,we told
her it needed replaced but she told us just do the job she brought the
car to get done and that the brake lines were fine we told her it wasn't
leaving under its own power and she better get a flatbed (this wasn't
the first time I had to do this)she did and 10 minutes after she left I
watched her drive by in it
I should've called the cops but I had covered my a$$ with the flatbed so
it was on her then
So what you got,i think this can be a real learning experience

If you told her she was risking her life with that car, and refused to patch
a
deathtrap, you have done all you could do.

You dont have to work on every POS that comes in the door.

It is my firm belief that most people are reasonable, and that if you talk
to
them rather than trying to BS them, and if you do your work well, people
will appreciate it and will pay a fair price.

If they dont want to pay, let them go somewhere else. And if you cant make
a go of it, just like the rest of us with our jobs, you have to find another
way
to put cornbread on the table.

actually I am sort of staying in the same line of work but changing
fields by going back to school to become a machinist and hopefully I can
be working making custom parts someday for cars ,trucks, bikes and
trikes that would be the best job to have making money and being very
happy doing it .I am also hoping to do this at least on the side in the
next couple of years
Thanks for the positive response

She sounds like a future Darwin Award candidate. Most people are
reasonable, but I've seen more than one who's insisted that whatever it is
is "ok". I'm in the Electrical Engineering field and people are the same
way.

I treat my truck right and its gone 180,000 miles so far. That includes
everything its needed when it needs it. You can pay a little now or a lot
later. I can justify a lot of repair bills before I can justify a new
vehicle (or even a good used one).

Cheers

Scott
