Hi Group. I want to change out/ upgrade the stereo deck on a 03 Baja.
Theres probably a way to do this without removing the whole console.
Has anyone done this and have any advice?

Thanks

You could get a manual.

On my son's '99 Impreza, the console had to be removed to change the
radio. But it was 2 or 3 screws and a couple of clips. Not a big deal.

Look up the car on http://www.metraonline.com/ for the kit needed and the
instructions.
You may not need the kit, if the radios are the same size.
The best place I found for stereos was www.bought4less.com

Go to www.crutchfield.com and order the wiring adapter. They include
step by step instructions ( which DO require removing ashtray, trim
etc. It isnthard but not a 5 minute swap. If you have antenna in
glass you must connect power antenna lead to power the booster or
radio reception will be awful.

Took your advice about Crutchfields, They have great service, quick ship
, knowledgeable techs. They send you the correct wiring harness, and
detailed, model specific instructions. It made for an easy job. Their
instructions/photos are much better than the Haynes.

Thanks for your advice, and Kudos to Crutchfields

I ordered a replacement for the stock unit on my Impreza (2006) from
www.crutchfield.com

The new radio came with everything required (wiring harness,
instructions, etc.).

The price was reasonable and the experience was good. The also provide
tech support as needed.

My new radio sounds a lot better with the same speakers. It also can
play MP3's from CD's, USB drives, and iPod.

Be sure to place some padding for the console panel when you pull it so
it doesn't scratch. Also, you have to pull so hard that it seems like
you'll break it.

Happy Hunting!
