Post subject: radio code

I had my alternator replaced in my 96 grand am a few days ago, and the radio doesnt work. I know i need the code, but the old owner doesnt have it. I looked around on the internet, and other people who have this problem said their radio displayed "code", while mine is just blank. Is there a way to get the code withot taking the radio out?
