Okay - what are the "special rules" that apply to the grizzly area? Must be
packing a minimum of .44 Magnum?

pass riding a bike..

Nice pics. Been across the Pass a few times myself, it's spectacular
and probably my favorite "sunday drive". We'll be living right near
there too, the view from our property takes in the Absaroka range as
well as the Beartooths (see, I didn't say "Bearteeth"!)

Here's some older pics from the Pass:

http://www.jodi.ws/america/wyoming/wyoming.html

We went up there in June as well, starting at the Chief Joseph Highway
juncture (also a nice ride, there's a great view at Sunlight Basin).
The turn right to Red Lodge was still closed, I think, but we went left
towards Cooke City anyway, we were headed to Yellowstone. Pretty nice
way to spend one's birthday Smile

First time I went up the Beartooth Pass was circa 1984. I think parts
may have been unpaved back then, and no guard rails. At least that's
what I remember - I think at least they've widened the turns, because
back then we'd get stuck on turns waiting for cabin cruisers going the
other way to k-turn their way around them.
