The GX 470 is a little larger,
Also check out

I personally would go for a BMW X3, no cost maintenance for 4yr/50K
miles, even brake pads are free. The Lexus RX is based on a Toyota
Camry chassis, with a nicely dolled-up interior. But I never thought
Lexus had much technical content under the sheet metal to justify the
price tag. Of course YMMV.
However, besides the X3 or RX, Businessweek suggests Acura RDX:

Infiniti and Volvo may not have the room Bud needs.

The H3 was produced from the Chassis/drivetrain(s)
of the Colorado/Canyon trucks. Optional engines in
these trucks were an inline 5 cylinder, multi-valve, dohc,
3.5L model
Adequate in the small pickups, they may be over loaded
by the heavier H3. However, GM has announced that
for '08, both the H3, and the pickups will offer the V8
5.3L powerplant, long in use by the Silverado/Sierra
pickup models.

I heard they were upgrading the engine to V8 but thought it was still
another year or so away.

Well. it may be, at least for the Colorado/Canyon. But,
I think the H3 has the availability for '08.
The '08 H3 brochure at:
http://www.hummer.com/popups/h3_mini_brochure.pdf
clearly states the V8 is available. But, they've got a few
more models. Apparently, the V8 model is/will be called
the H3 "Alpha".
Regarding the Colorado, and presumably Canyon, I see
that:
http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/news/chevrolet/colorado/v808.html
talks about the 5.3 V8 for '08. However, the commitment
seems a little softer that the H3's claim.
But, as a Colorado owner, I do see that the original 3.5L
I-5 was upgraded somewhere along the line to 3.7L
There is a Colorado/Canyon site, that I'm sure is all abuzz
about this new V8 offering, at:
http://www.coloradofans.com/
These guys are diehards. They know about stuff before
the dealers. <g>
I did an unauthenticated(no signon) search from the Colo-
rado site for "V8", and this is what I got.
http://www.google.com/custom?domains=www.coloradofans.com&q=v8&sa=Sear...sitesea
Apparently, although this is a full web search, it's aimed
only at Colorado/Canyon topics. >> Stay informed about: If you had to pick an SUV other than the RX330/350.... |

LOL, no. Just with the design of those makes Bud may not be able to get into
a comfortable position. I have one friend who is 6'7" and loves his FX35 and
feels comfortable in it. However, his brother who is 6"2" thinks it's too
small and can't get into a comfortable position.
Probably the best bet for Bud would be to drive them all and see which is
best. See if there is a Carmax (www.carmax.com) close by. They usually carry
these models and you can drive them back to back. You can usually find a good
low mileage used one also at that place, which may be exactly what you're
looking for and save a few bucks.

Yeah, I know what you mean. European's old winding roads and high gas
prices usually mean more compact cars; American highways usually mean
larger cars, even when gas prices approach and pass $4/gal.
There are specs for head, shoulder and leg rooms in case Bud needs
them.

My wife has a 2001 RX 300. I am 6'3" and there's plenty of head room.
Have you tried the lowering the seat? There's a little lever on the
left side of the seat...
Or maybe less hair gel...?
