Post subject: Need opinions on the Canon A620
Archived from groups: rec>photo>digital (more info?)

I am leaning toward the purchase of the Canon A620 and want to here some
opinions from people out there who may already have one.
I am a average user, Consumer grade very amatuer who just wants a good
camera to take pictures of teh baby, family events, etc. I am upgrading from
an HP 318 so I know the jump from 3.2mp to 7.1 will be a pretty noticable
difference.
I'm looking at probably getting it around the post Thanksgiving holiday
sales so I have a few weeks before getting one.
I've read reviews online but I want to here the opinions of people out there
who use these things and have used Canons in the past. Should I look
somewhere else or is that model a good one?

Thanks,
John T McDougald

Recently I have been looking around for a camera to throw in my day sack
and just pull out and take a photo where ever I am.
The only thing that I was concerned about was the picture quality.
I new that it wouldn't match my DSLR, but I wanted to be happy with the
results.
I went into my local Jessops last week and, foolishly without reading any
reviews, bought
a Fuji E900.
I had the camera for 24 hours and took it back. The camera looked great! but
the photo quality,
in my opinion was rubbish.
The sales man (who was very helpful) asked my what I wanted to do,exchange
for a different model
or have my money returned.
I chose the Canon A620.
After looking at the first photograph taken with the Canon I knew that I had
done the right thing.
The quality of the G series lens on the A620 is excellent.
The only minor thing that I don't like about the Canon is the small flap
that hides the USB connection.
It seems a bit flimsy, but I don't use it anyway because I always remove the
card to transfer the pictures to my pc.
You won't be disappointed! and you can buy the Canon for under £230 from
Amazon,
which is a lot less than I paid for it.
All The Best !

Canon isn't without its problems. Check the unit you're
buying carefully for hot or dead pixels. Check both the
sensor and LCD.

The speed from Digic II is indeed neded for family pics, or you will lose
the best moments because of the time lag of the lesser processor.
