what was the reason behind the naming of the "88" and "98" series?
why choose numbers as model names? i have a '68 "98" and have wondered why
or what the "98" stood for....if anything.

thanks,

mike............

started back in the 1940's

they had Series 70, and Series 80

a Model 76, was a series 70, with a 6 cylinder engine

a Delta 88, Series 80, V-8

98- Series 90, V-8

the higher the first number, the fancier the car

Oldsmobile used a two-digit model designation. The first digit
signified the body size while the second represents the number of
cylinders. Body sizes were 6, 7, 8, and 9, and 6 and 8-cylinder
engines were offered. Thus, Oldsmobiles were named 66 through 98.
