Archived from groups: alt>autos>rod-n-custom (more info?)

A while back I overhauled a big block Chevy. The engine has only been run
for about 1 hour since it was assembled. Its been setting in the shop for
about six months cause I ran into some other problems on the car. While the
motor was running there wasn't any foam on the dip stick. I have not
started the engine for 2 months. I decided change the startup oil last night
and noticed it was slightly cloudy and had a slightly green color to it. I
didn't start the engine before draining the oil. I drained the oil in a
glass jar thinking if it had coolant in it maybe the coolant would separate
from the oil. The plugs all look the same Moly tread lube and assembly
lube was used during assembly. Maybe that gave the oil its color. Anyone
know a good way to check coolant for oil? To email me remove the (maps)
from my address. Thanks.

Some of the assembly lubs will impart a color to the oil. The best
test is simply to do a chemical test for coolant--you can get a test
kit at any good parts store. Quick and easy!
