neon 2.0lx (auto)

Hey guys,
new to the forums and need some advice.I have just purchased a neon lx auto here in the Uk for a good price.The car is a 2001 model but seems to have a problem.The engine management light is on and the car is running a little louder than normal but otherwise seems fine.I have not driven it since it started doing this but just wondered if there are any known faults with this model
that can cause the EML to come on.
Have been told it could be possible head gasket problem???are these cars known for head gaskets going wrong??

Any info would be great.
