Actually many years are more on the order of 70K..... but I've had a couple
of years that were over 100K.

I wish someone would make a small pickup that gets 35-40 mpg. Over the
last few years pickups have gotten bigger and bigger. The Tacomas and
Nissans are now classified as mid sized. I don't care whether it's
diesel or hybrid, I'm just tired of getting in the low 20s mpg. I
don't need to haul a lot of weight but trucks are so damn convenient
for carrying things like bikes, canoes, rug doctors, etc, etc.
I do too, and I think the solution will be a diesel version in a small pick
up - and rumor has it we'll be seeing those from several mfg's in the next
two years.

At 100K a year, and with anticipated battery life (based on what I've read,
which is perhaps speculation) of 100K miles, I would need to replace the
batteries once a year.

It is speculation that has not manifested itself.

I have stuck the foot in a 1966 Corvette 427/L88 on the back straight
at Watkins Glen to get 157 MPH (6800 RPM)...try that in your Prius.
This is from
a current Highlander Hybrid owner...I can get the Highlander up to about
40 MPH before the computer says "burn gasoline"! But again this is really
something to do only without any traffic around. >> Stay informed about: How long would a diesel hybrid last? |

I suppose it's "too soon to tell". But I did read an article, I think in
USA Today, but not sure about that--- anyhow, it said that battery
replacement is a very real concern, and as a result, in the near future, we
should start seeing "lease" options on the batteries. you would buy the car
without batteries per se, and lease the batteries.
The article also pointed out that when the batteries reach the end of their
usable life in a car, they still have around 85% life remaining for other
applications. The article did not however point out what those "other
applications" might be.
