Post subject: ignition problems

for a few weeks I have had some problems wiht my 99 grand am. The problem is that when I insert the key it will not turn and I have to keep trying for about 5 to 10 minutes to get it to turn, this has only happend 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Today I drove my car to the bank and when I tried to start my car the key turned but I had no power nothing would work. I let the car sit for about 30 minutes and then it worked, however when I stoped at a red light the car stalled. Could this latest problem be caused from a faulty ignition.

I am just guessing here but my Aurora had the same problem and I found out that it was the Engine Ignition Module. Let me know if this helps.

I changed the ingnition modual and I haven't had any problems turning the key but I am still losing power and the car stalls. I noticed that my air bag light comes on then goes off after a minute and when I put the window up or down the radio light dims very low. Any ideas?

Well, the only thing I can think of is you have a short in your electrical system. When I have a short in my electrical system, I use my digital voltameter and my diagnostic tool. You can get a cheap one that does a wiggle test on sensors. What that means is, if you open up the hood and start wiggling sensors, wires, you will hear a load beep. Then you have found one possible problem aiding in your problems. I think I bought mine for 10.00- 20.00 bucks. I would start by checking all the grounds and clean them. Take the ground off and scrap it with a knife or something to take corrosion off then scrap down under where the ground sits. Then use an electrical sealent to keep good conection and then you won't have to worry about the body rusting at all. Do your windows go up and down ok? If not I would check the wires to them, and the radio harrness. If it is an aftermarket sterio then it is possible then the short could be in there. Esspecially if you didn't install it then who knows who had there fingers in there messing around. LOL! Anyway hope this works for yah. Keep me informed on any progress.
