Unless you are driving a moped, there is a good chance your vehicle has to go through a warrant of fitness test (WoF). This is different from the driver’s test you need to take before you can drive. WoF is a certification your vehicle has gone through inspection, and authorities deemed it safe to be on the road.
Because WoF is all about driver and traffic safety, standards can be very high, and failure is possible. Although you can retake the test, it can be costly and time-consuming. To increase the likelihood of passing the test the first time, here are some tips to remember:
Find a Good Mobile Mechanic
Although you can perform a self-check, you may miss out some areas unless you have an excellent knowledge on motor check-up and repair. Thus, before you take the test, you can call for mobile mechanic services, such as Dr Diesel, and have your vehicle checked.
This way, if something is wrong with the car, the mechanic can do the necessary repairs right away. Depending on the issues, it may take as short as few hours.
Pay Attention to Certain Parts of the Car
Rusting is one of the most common reasons for failure, so always check every nook and cranny of the vehicle. You also need to pay more attention to the tyres, especially the depth or the tread. If the tyres are thin, they are less likely to have a good traction when on the road.
This can be problematic as many roads are winding, hilly, or narrow. It is also important to check the quality of all the lights, as well as the wiper.
Know When to Take WoF
Knowing when to take the test is one of the best ways to prepare well for it. The schedule depends on the age of the vehicle and the date of its registration. If the vehicle’s registration is on or after 1 January 2000, you need to take the WoF each year.
If it is a new vehicle that has yet to undergo registration, it should go through the test every third year.
