I recently got a straight six engine from a 1941 pontiac.After some
research, I think it may be a studebaker . It has a carter BBR carb and
an autolite distributor 1120566. can anyone help? or send me to pics
or a site that has more info? I can post pics or the engine number.
thanks

If it is a Pontiac the engine number will be stamped at the left, front,
upper corner of the block, same place as a Stude. 1941 starting engine
number would be 6-761501. The distributor number you show doesn't sound
like an Autolite number. Any GM car would be expected to have a Delco-
Remy distributor.

Why would that be a strange engine swap. I have 5 Studebakers and 4 of
them have Dodge or Chrysler engines. I once had a 49 F---d with a Buick
engine.

Bob was right on! It is a Chrysler product. The P15 (same as car model
number) in the engine number identifies it as a 1946-49 Plymouth engine.
The engine numbers ran continuously '46-mid'49, so while I can't name a
specific year I'll guess 1949. A Plymouth club might be able to supply
more details. Wow, talk about strange engine swaps!
