Ya have to admit....
This is an amazing marque...
46 years later and you can still buy NOS hard parts.
Shoot, you can't even do that with a 10 year old Chevy nowadays...

Yep, the only six in '59 was the flathead, replaced by the OHV6 in
'61. Also, the first year dual headlights were available on a Lark
was in '61 on the upper trim levels.

10 year old? I tried to order a wheel opening molding on a 2002 Dodge Ram,
(ok Hawk owners, pay attention here) $355.00 for a right front! ONE not a
set!! Came back as NS1 no longer available! A 3 year old truck! Pissed me
off enough, we fixed the one on the truck, made St. Farm happy too! <G>

It's been about 35 years, but I'm pretty sure that I ran a 259 with OD
and a 3.07 for a while.
in a '60 Lark HT. I was swapping parts around and that combination was
in it at one time, IIRC.
I did the SF / San Diego / SF weekend run at least once that way.
Car had a FH 6 when I bought it, but a "VIII" on the rear.
Fun toy. Roof rack, folding rear seat.

A friend did that manoeuvre with a flathead 226-6 Kaiser with all of about
112 hp in a 3,500 lb car. Putting in a BW overdrive drops each gear 30%.
Overdrive 2nd is your new best friend, especially getting up a ramp onto a
freeway. Besides that, with overdrive off and regular straight shift rear
end gearing, its the same as before. With overdrive on and good radial
tires, you can get a good highway cruiser out of a flathead--not a speed
demon, but a few more MPH and running cooler and quieter. It is a change
that is particularly well suited to the Continenal engine, but don't see why
it wouldn't be right for a Studebaker engine as well. Bonus is that if the
overdrive ever acts up (as they will when you are far enough from home),
your 6 is still driveable for longer distances.

Jim Bartley on PEI--think of it as a 4th gear, instead of 3rd over
