I finally saw my son's Nissan he just bought - it's white, and the damned
tires have *black* covers. Looks like it has 4 "baby" tires on it. He says
that's all the rage!

Why would you want wheels that look like they should only be used in an
emergency?

Damn, that's ugly. Worse than the Conestoga wagon wheels they loved in the
past.

Look at either 1010tires.com or tirerack.com.

The recommended tire size for this car is a 205-55/16. You can go up or
down a size (215-50/16 or so) but to stray too far from the recomm. tire
size is asking for trouble.

That car should have had alloys. Does he have the OEM wheels? If not, I'd
get them from whom he bought the car.

How much did he pay for it?

They're full sized, but have no silver on them, so they look very much the
way baby tires look. The baby tire is the only one without a hubcap, so it
stands out.

He says they're alloy.

It could be a regional thing, but I haven't seen them since the 1980s

I've never seen a Nissan D21 or Frontier pickup around here that
didn't have factory alloy wheels, almost always painted silver.

Here's a video of how narrow whitewalls can be turned into wide ones:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkcm3rh60p0

The resulting tires seem perfectly safe. Wink

I like this one better:

I thought most people knew there was a band of white underneath the BSW.

Smaller, thinner tires reduce rolling resistance, leading to better
fuel economy.

Jeff

Whatever - I'd rather pay the difference in fuel than drive around on those
damned things.

Personally, I like the Earth.

However, I pay with money, not fuel.

Jeff

Smartass.

One of the selling points of my Echo was its handling; probably because of
the very shallow tires on it. When I first got the car, I once had a flat
tire, but didn't realize it until a trucker pointed it out. I knew it was
driving differently, but didn't realize that was why; I thought it might
just be low.

Of course, that's way different from the blowout I had more recently.
*Horrible* noise!
