I have a Gazelle car kit with a 2300CC engine and a 4 speed manual
trans.
I would like to put an overdrive in to pick up the speed a little.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks
Chuck

Not sure about the exact third member ratios, but I believe the automatic
version has a higher ratio which would give you more speed for a given rpm.
I think it is probably easier and cheaper than messing with a tranny change,
new drive shaft etc. The car should still accelerate ok in first due to the
signifcant weight reduction from the Pinto.

Thanks for the information, as it is now, we can't get more than about
50MPH on the highway.
I will look into an automatic trans for it.

Maybe I was not very clear with my suggestion. I meant the rear axle gear
ratio is usually lower with a manual transmission car. Changing to a higher
rear axle ratio that usually come with a auto transmission car would give
more speed at lower RPM. There is no need to switch to an auto transmission.
The car should do better than 50 mph. I think you have another problem that
needs to be sorted out. Stock Pinto's with the 2300 engine easily do 80mph.
I recently acquired a Gazelle with the 2300 engine with an auto trans and I
have no problem getting it up to 65 +. The ride however is a little scary
and I need to sort out some suspension issues.

Peter
I see, so I can keep the 4 speed and look at the rear end
I think I will take your advice and have it looked at, I think it
should go faster also, maybe there is an engine problem.
This car rides and handels well, it just takes forever to get where we
are going.
I will let you know what the mech. finds out, as I will take it in next
week and let him have a look.
Thanks
Chuck
