Archived from groups: alt>trucks>ford (more info?)

Hi everyone.
I am up to my elbows in my Ford Sport Trak. 2001. It is front disc only
anitlock with cruise.
I have slightly dark fluid which I am flushing out in hopes of fixing a slow
loss of pressure it seems in the braking.
I hit the brakes to stop and it seems to try and grab but then the pedal
eases itself about 3/4 of the way down as the anitlock then quietly tries to
activate. I then stop on whatever is left. I am cycling the fluid through
all the wheels just in case its that, but the problem seems to have gotten a
a tad worse now that the fluid is new. While I have it apart I am
inspecting everything, but I dont see any leaks anywhere.

I can get a master cylinder or a booster replacement within 24 hours, but I
am not sure which it would be. I am not sure how to distinguish the symptom
in this regard or if thats what it is. Any experts?

The symptoms you list indicate a bad master cylinder.
