Maybe I was a bit hasty in my condemnation of the new rule.
I can see where it would add suspense to Sat. qualifying. It
would therefore make Sat. more fun to watch. Sorry.

I can now see the argument for both sides.

I agree that if a team can not perform, then they should not be compensated
with a second chance. Someone who runs a 4.70 on Friday night to qualify
15th can still be bumped by someone who runs a 4.80 in the final qualifying
session just does not sound right to me.

HOWEVER

Does the team that did run the 4.70 on Friday night, but can only manage a
4.90 at best during a daylight run, deserve to be in the show?

My opinion is YES.

That's how you continue to keep the interest of the privateers to keep
trying to compete against the big $$ teams.
