Questions for all you eBay veterans on the NG:

1) Have you noticed a clear advantage to a 7-day auction duration as
compared to a 5-day auction duration?

2) Is there a 'best time' to end an auction (ie, day of the week and
time of that day)? It seems like a lot of them end on Sunday
night.......

Thanks for any input!!

Paul

I like the 7 or 10 day auction, personally... I have never used the
5-day format.

With the 10-day, you can get 2 full weekends in if you srtar the
auction on a Thursday.

I have gotten best results by scheduling my auctions to start at 7:30
PM PST on Thursday (for a 10-day) and 7:30 PM PST Sunday (for a
7-day). It seems that Sunday evening has been my best return as I
think more people are at home, in front of the computer, and not as
distracted as they can be in the middle of the week.

I have a friend whom I finally got to start using ebay a couple of years
ago. After I told him that most of the action happens in the last hours of
the sale, & that many buyers search the items ending soonest, he started
listing
auctions with 5 day durations. He says that he seems to get just as much for
his items, & that it gives him an extra payday every month. He consistently
nets a grand per week, and has surpassed me in feedback.
His specialty is MoPar stuff, & he has been buying the stuff siince the late
60's, so has quite a bunch of good NOS. He put himself through college
selling parts, and upon graduating and receiving a teachers certificate, had
the choice of earning about$12K as a teacher or continuing selling parts,
decided to stay with the parts. He has never had a job in his adult life
other than selling parts. Ebay has enabled him to stay home rather than
driving all over the country making all of the swap meets. The ebay business
gives his wife, who is unable to work, something to keep her busy.

I use the 7 day and like most have said already try to end it on Sat or
Sunday. Seems like most people look or check over the weekend as they are
off work then and have more time. Unless there is Super Bowl...LOL Lost big
time there.

You mean he has enough parts to sell to support himself the rest of his
life????
Surely he must be doing something elsewhere to find the parts he's
selling on eBay.

He has been buying for decades, & still buys when he can find salable stuff.
He actually has more stuff than me!
