Hi,

I'm running 1980 corvette with a Rajay turbo at 10 psi , how much higher can
I go without causing damage, there is no intercooler, the comp ratio is 8.5
to 1 and it's not injected (draws through carb).

any help much appreciated

Basically you can go as high as the motor will mechanically stand, before it
starts to get detonation in the cylinders.
But 10 psi is pretty high already for your set up seeing that there is no
intercooler, the 8.5-1 is probably helping alot, if you could install an
intercooler you could probably up the boost by another 3-5lbs and still run
[ if that is what you run now ] pump gas.
The turbo is probably good for close to twenty psi or even more ...but you
should get the intercooler thing sorted out first.. if it is the old Accell
turbo system [ or a variation of it , like a martin etc..] it may be more
trouble than its worth to mess with it..
If you are looking for large hp numbers you may want to think about a
complete new system, or at least heavily modifying the one you have.. I
think that Rajay is good for at least 400 hp ,... so if you are looking for
500 plus then you are going to need to upgrade just about everything.
Would be pretty nice to have a couple of small turbos on it and switch up to
a late model fuel injection while you are at it... very drivable , with good
fuel economy and the twins would supply 400+ hp min, but easily upgraded
from there.. just a thought..
Good luck either way.
Dave.
