Post subject: new corvette buying
Archived from groups: alt>autos>corvette (more info?)

My wife gave me permission to consider buying a new car tho we really
don't need one yet. I'm considering a corvette for our retirement but
have a some newbie questions. And if it matters, I'll likely buy a
coupe with mostly stock items. I'm not really a speed demon so I
don't need the fastest car which may make me look foolish considering
a corvette in the first place but in any case...

Can a buyer typically go to a Chevy dealer and test drive a new
corvette like most other new cars?

Just curious if anyone knows what is the most and least popular
corvette colors nowadays?

Is it much more economical to buy a 2008 vs 2009 in the next 2 months?
What I mean is any idea what the difference in savings might be?

With the national economic woes, are the corvette dealers more
negotiable with a cash buyer? Any idea what a good price is for a new
stock equipped 2008 corvette coupe as a cash buyer?

What are the major differences between the 2008 and 2009 models?

Do the T tops come in clear and painted tops? Is one better than the
other?

Hellooooooooooo Newman,

Of course you want to go to the Chevy dealer and test drive it. Also pick
up the Corvette folder from the dealer. It's a slick catalog of all the
models, options, colors, etc.

Corvettes are selling about as well as Surburbans. Find a car that's been
sitting in the show room for six months and I guarantee they'll deal. Do
your homework. It's pretty easy these days.

Check out Ebay. If you can do with a car 6 months to 2 years old, you can
save a ton. While I didn't buy off Ebay, I bought at a dealer, I got about
$15k off the sticker of a 2008 Z06 with 2000 miles on it.

While I'm sure they'd like your cash, they do have 0% financing. Put your
money in a interest bearing account would be my move. I had a former
finance manager a long time ago tell me that they make more money on cash
deals. On deals with no down and loans, the bank has a maximum they'll
finance. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You will get the best deal on a 2008 coupe. Convertables and Z06's still
are in demand.

They don't make T-tops anymore. I believe it's called a Targa top and is
one piece, the full width of the car. It's the color of the car. My only
problem with them is if you stow it in the back of the car, where do you put
the golf clubs and luggage?

Good luck, Ed

REPLY: If you dont need another car, I wouldnt buy one. During this
tough national economic crisis we are in, you should not part with
your money needlessly. Even if its to own Americas icon car.

If your a buyer in todays climate you are a gem to any car dealer.
Do some research @ GM.com to see what colors and options are there.
Price the car out online and search for your car locally.
Most dealers don't want you to test drive a new vette for fear of
unwanted mileage or damage. Butt they should have some used cars you
can drive to make sure you like the feel of the car .
If you do go for the new one insist on driving it before you sign.
If you are willing to walk out you should be able to get the best
deal, I assure they won't let you walk far.
Enjoy
Oh yeah RED

Appreciate this great information.
I never get emotional buying a new car and treat it like a business so
I have no problem walking.

I was doing some preliminary research and Edmunds.com has owner
satisfaction surveys and the 2008 Corvette rates very high. I was
actually reading some of them and it really educates one wanting to
own a corvette. I will read all of them but it will take some time.

thank you kicksart again.

That's not a very intelligent method of making a purchasing decision,
especially now. That just adds to the reason the "economy" is falling on
its face. People who can't get a loan, can't buy, if people who don't
need a loan don't buy either, then ONLY people who HAVE to buy and DON'T
need a loan will buy, and that is a pretty small segment of the
purchasing. If you have the money AND you want the car, the price is
RIGHT, NOW. Why wait till the price goes up because the car manufactures
went out of business and quit making the car?

I tag onto Bob I. If you like it and it fits
your budget, buy soon.

Depending on where you live but I'd suggest the
convertible as a "retirement" car. Top-down on
a spring morning is absolutely great. OTOH,
year-round highway touring with long trip will
go better in a coupe.

Buy it with all the features and
creature-comforts you and your wife might like.
The discounts on moderately equipped cars,
already in a dealer's inventory--or that are
obtainable from a nearby dealer's inventory, are
better than on a base coupe.

If you opt for any 'warranty extensions'
remember to do some due diligence on any offerings.
