BTW, the Both Front tires both read 25 Pounds and both rear tires read
30 Pounds....Could this cause a great decrease in my M.P.G. ?? >> Stay informed about: What is the correct PSI for P225/60R16 tires? [2002 TAURUS] |

One fool proof way is to draw a caulk line across the tire, drive ahead a
few tire revolutions and see where the caulk is rubbed off. Even across,
correct pressure, in the center, too high, along the outer edges, too low.

according to Tirerack, the OEM size is 215/60R16. So you are slightly
oversize. it's only about a 1% error in your speedo though.
(you'll be traveling ~1% faster than your speedo sez)
Check your owner's manual, inside your door jambs, door edges or
inside the gas cap flap (seriously, Ford does that) for tire
pressures. probably 32-35 PSI.

As close as that tire is to OEM, go with the pressure listed on your door
sticker.

dOOR JAM SAID 30 PSI, but that's for a p215/60r16 instead of my

I'd use chalk instead of caulk, unless you really like dried goop on your
tires and driveway ;-/

There is no recommended pressure on a tire's sidewall; there is only a
maximum pressure for the tire according to load, wear, and speed rating
(unless you're using bicycle tires). >> Stay informed about: What is the correct PSI for P225/60R16 tires? [2002 TAURUS] |

As others have posted, and what is on my 2000, the recommendation is
30/30. I personally keep mine at about 32/32. You get fractionally
better MPG and a bit better handling. Yes, that 2psi does make a
noticeable handling difference, especially reducing the squealing going
around corners.

30 should be close - I have 205/60/16 tires on the Mystique and run
them at 34 - I find they are not as harsh as at 30

With all of this nitpicking about tire pressure ... 1 or 2 lbs one way or
the other, you will be hard pressed to find a gauge that is accurate. I must
have three or four and they all read differently. It's probably more
important to just have both tires, on each axle, the same. A pound or two,
one way or the other is no big deal. Check out the wear pattern and if it's
worn more on the edges, go for the higher pressure and use a bit more of the
center part of the tire. Ditto for the opposite condition. Of course this
goes for, not brand new, tires, rather a maintenance of tread usage.
Just my 2 cents worth and habits. >> Stay informed about: What is the correct PSI for P225/60R16 tires? [2002 TAURUS] |
