Last month we bought a new Fit Sport and are delighted. We shopped via
phone and found a dealer only an hour away that had one coming in and
was willing to sell it at sticker price.
As we bought the car the saleswoman was fine and helpful. But when we
were ushered into the office of the "closer" who does the paperwork, the
weather changed a bit when we produced a certified check for the price
we had discussed on the phone.
He didn't mention teflon sealant, undercoating, and theft-proof wheels,
etc., but insisted that a Hondacare extended warranty could only be
bought at time of purchase, and was $2,200 to extend the warranty to
100k miles. He offered to take a personal check or credit card for the
difference. We didn't bite, and drove away in the new car (first Honda
in the family, but not the last!).
When my Toyota Prius approached 36k miles, my local dealer asked $1,900
for a Toyota Platinum warranty (100k miles/7Y). I shopped online, and
got precisely the same thing for under $1k from a dealer that sells them
online.
Seems to me that the Hondacare warranty might be available similarly, as
that Fit nears the end of the original warranty. Or, given the lower
complexity of the FIT (compared to the Prius), perhaps it makes sense
not to extend the warranty at all.
Thanks for your views, gurus.
PS - the FIT is auto trans, drives 40-50 miles a day (half on freeways),
and with A/C on averages 34.5 mpg. It's accumulated about 1.5k miles so far. >> Stay informed about: Hondacare Warranty for a new FIT??? |

You can find it on line. My accord hybrid 8 year zero deductible 120k miles
hondcare was around $1100 last year. Yours should be much less. One reason
to buy one is that when you decide to sell the car, you get most your money
back on the warranty since it should be transferable.

I experienced a similar approach when I bought my 06 Accord coupe except it
was a glorified maintenance discount program with roadside assistance --
cost masked by a payment plan for several years. My only irritation was
having to "listen" to the pitch and have to confirm in writing my NO. It
was called of all thiings -- the Honda Customer Loyalty Plan -- as though I
deserved the opportunity because I was a loyal Honda customer. Makes me
think of putting lipstick on pigs. >> Stay informed about: Hondacare Warranty for a new FIT??? |

You can get Hondacare service contract at anytime until the factory warranty
expires.
I never understood why a person would pay for concurrent "warranties" when only
one is in effect. In other words, a 7 year extended contract should extend the
3 year warranty to 10, not 7.

I just bought a 2007 Accord V6 yesterday. Is this Honda Care extended
warranty the same as the one that was offered to me at the dealer?
Even though the coverage sounded good I am always wary of these things,
so I declined. He allowed me to think about it and call him no later
than tomorrow.
If these online links are the same warranty they are MUCH cheaper.

Ask your dealer to meet the price. Mine did.

They charge more and give you less warranty after a certain amount of
mileage and time.... I think 1 year 15k miles.

All aspects of extended service contracts are negotiable, including
cost. Most "standard policies" cost the dealer less than $500. If the dealer
(or dealer group) is underwriting the policy, the cost is even less.
Think of the extended service contract as a hedge bet, on your cars
usable life. Like any bet, you lose most of the time.
