Hi all

Ive read some of the threads concerning cambelts thoroughly but have a
question.

Ive just bought a 3.0 166 with 37,000 miles. Its a great car. But does anyone
know when the cambelt needs to be changed on the 3.0? I read somewhere else
that on 4 cyl engines that it needs to be done at 36 k but what about the 6
cyls?

On a side issue, ive just changed the oil and air filter on the car. I tried
to chnage the oil filter but couldnt! The old filter is on very tight and the
Draper tool that I had did not allow access to the filter - the area in which
its in is bloody restrictive. If any of you service ur own cars do you know
if there a special tool that can be used?

Cheers

Paul

I've had 3 alfas and 1 was a V6 I dont currently drive an alfa )o: but when
I buy my next one i'm going to change the belt and all associated bits no
matter when i think it might of been changed. The cost of a belt change is
negligable when you consider the cost of anengine rebuild of replacement.

Paul,

My 166 3.0 was coming up to similar mileage and age and the catastrophic implosion of my friend's 166 2.5 at five years and 55,000 miles caused me to consider this question very carefully.

I read all the horror stories here and spoke to Ramponis and they suggested four years or 48,000 miles. In the end I chickened out and had the belt changed last month at nearly four years and 37,000 miles. I didn't want to risk waiting for 48k.

FYI: belt, tensioner, all the bits, new plugs, annual service, came to EUR 1,100 - I had it done in France (main dealer).
