Post subject: Getting automatic into neutral w/o keys
Archived from groups: alt>cars (more info?)

Well, so i lost my keys and rather than hotwire the car, which seems a
bit messy, i think I'll just push it to a friends instead of getting it
towed. I'm waiting for a key to be made out of town because no one in
this town can do it. But i need to know.

Since i don't have the key i can't get the shifter to put the car into
neutral, and i know that there is a way to force a car into neutral
from under the hood i just don't know how.

If anyone knows what that process is or how to do it please help so my
car doesn't get towed.

what ever wheels are not the drive wheels move freely if i recall. so if
you have a front wheel drive car. put the front wheels on something so they
can roll then you can push it...maybe not. i don't know.

Disconnect the shift linlage to the transmission and then move the gear
selector on the transmission by hand into neutral - usually two clicks.
Hope this helps
