Post subject: New 5 speed tourque-shift automatic transmission problems

Has anyone had any trouble with the new ford trans? I have a 2005 f350 4x4 superduty, and the trans is shuttering like crazy, and wont go into reverse. The bad part, the truck has 1,345 miles on it. Dealer says they havent seen many problems with these. I had to laugh, because in sept '04 the same thing happened to my '04 e350 with 21,000 miles! Anyone else had these troubles?

I just had my 2004 F150 Heritage with 4.2L V6 transmission fail. They said
it got water into it somehow so ITS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. The truck
has only 5,000 miles on it. I'm sure it doesn't have the same as your huge
F350 SD.

In the fleet of fords at my job i have seen the 4R100 tranny shudder like
crazy. Usually smooth it out with a fluid filter change and about 2 days
of driving to work the new addatives into the clutches. As for the
Torqueshift (5R110w). AS long as you use the Mercon SP i haven't seen any
shudder but i know the reverse pinions walk out because we have had 3 with
delayed reverse then eventually turned themselves into metal shavings. I
do believe ford just issued a recall for this.

Ford has experience with the problem you describe with this new
transmission.
There is a snap ring on the upper area of the transmission, I believe its
for low pressure reverse, and should the snap ring release reverse gear is
slow in engaging, it will engage, just slow. Prolong use of the
transmission in this condition can and will cause the case to crack and loss
of fluids will result.

I have a 2005 F-450 on the fleet that has suffered from the cracked case
with 800 miles/1280 KMS. Ford's Oasis has this issue onboard and your local
Ford dealer can search for this problem.

My servicing Ford dealer even suggested that Ford was going to do a "quiet
recall" on the 2004-2005.

With the F-450 in this issue the replacement transmission was pulled "from
the line" in order to have the vehicle back into service.

This message may be duplicated.

Ford of Canada contacted me today and informed me all of the 2004 F-450/
550's in my stable are on RECALL for the transmission issue as it pertains
to the low pressure reverse problem.
In Canada FORD is using RECALL notice 04-B24.

Perhaps this may assist you in your transmission issues and your dealer.

"recalls" are for safety related items. Now they might put out a TSB on
it....

There's no such thing as a "quiet recall"
