If you really are intent on a low budget racer, then spend your bucks where
they will do the most good. Definately not in the areas you listed. Steering
box- use what you have! Cut the tubing at the box & loop them together with
a piece of fuel hose & 2 clamps. My wife is racing an 80 Camaro that way,
cost for manual steering 50 cents. Manual Master Cylinder is on any good
website for auto parts like Rock Auto. Look up the part # then shop locally.
Thats something you buy new for sure. Our 80 Camaro runs 11.30's for less
than $5000 total.

not so much intent, as need, 2 mortgages 3 kids and to many other little
hobbies (this time sucking computer for one ) i enjoy racing but not
so much competitive but for fun (trophy class most of the time) and to
fill my need for speed, legally.
as for the steering box i have done the loop, my train of thought was
along the lines of a junkyard part, one from a compatible car, mostly
just to make it easier to turn , i have a 78 camaro and as is sits now
with a stock 283, (yes a 283, was in the car when i got it) th 350 (also
stock ex/shift improver kit), 2.73:1 open rear end, runs a solid 15.50,
mind you, it dose not have the best tune on it i don't think it has
enough timing and i know it is to fat.
as for the master cyl would a (per say) any work? it has disc on the front
as a side note i have collecting parts for much better car 350, 3.73:1
posi, torker II (i might go with a high rise dual plane), edelbrock
carb, much bigger cam (not huge) ported 1.94 heads, and a little more
set time
sorry didn't mean to ramble on
thanks for the reply

Bob,
There aren't any good newsgroups for race car tips. I've done quite a
bit of racing myself, and I would say your best bet is to go to a few
tracks and talk to the racers. Look for people racing the same type of
car (and budget) you are interested in. You will be surprised at how
friendly folks are when you ask them questions about their cars in the
pits. Just try and do it early in the day, rather than in the middle of
eliminations.

I'm sure there are a lot of good forums to get the info you need. One
I like is Chevytalk-
http://www.chevytalk.org/threads/ubbthreads.php
You might pick up a Hollander Interchange book, direct or from eBay.
I always take mine when I go junkyard treasure hunting. Check to see
if your local library has one.

Here you go. I have a high 8 second 78 Camaro, (153+ MPH) you can buy it for
$17,500. It's a tall block 427 with a 4.25" stroke. Has all the best parts.
Dart heads, Ultrabell glide, Dana 60 rear, Ron's Toilet, glass front, doors,
deck lid, Kirky seat, removable steering wheel, and so on. New chassis cert.
Has about 15 runs on the engine, 30 on the rest of the car. This is a no BS
turn key race car. Want to see a picture of it?

Just a pity you didn't take the time to read the bit about "DON'T HAVE
MONEY", what is it with you lot, too busy bombing the shit out of
people to learn to read?
