Post subject: NHRA issues moratorium on Top Fuel rear wing
Archived from groups: alt>autos>sport>nhra (more info?)

NHRA has placed a moratorium on design changes to the Top Fuel rear wing
and the bi-strut mounting system. Effective immediately, all Top Fuel
vehicles will be limited to use only the design and bi-strut mounting
system currently in use. This allows for all current wing designs to
continue to be used as NHRA goes forward with an SFI Specification in
regards to rear wings.

This is another example of how the sport has changed over the years and
in the wrong direction. Today Big Daddy would not be able to have come
out with the rear engine setup. They have tried for a long time to slow
the cars down. rear end gear rule, nitro percentage reduction, blower
overdrive limit, RPM limit. Why about new heads, cams, blowers? The want
no tire smoke, no oil downs and 2 cars side by side. To me the best race
last Sunday was where Tony Schumacher smoked the tires off the line and
then Morgan Lucas smoked them at 1/2 track and Tony did a great driving
job to beat Morgan.

I agree, the pedalfests are always great. Side by side big numbers are
ok, but pedalfests are the best. They seem to want to fix something
that's not really broken, IMO. So what if NHRA doesn't explode in
popularity, like Nascar?

I agree also. Unfortunately the honchos at NHRA are looking at NASCAR
and salivating all over themselves.

BTW: That Schumacher/Lucas run was great. Morgan acted like he was
pissed at himself but it looked like he was doing a pretty good job of
pedaling. I think Shoe just hooked up in time and really was flying
at the end.
