My girlfriend has a 2000 cougar, for some reason when the gas tank is about half empty the car sputters and once in a while shuts off, but then it will start right back up, i have no clue what could be causing this, any help would be great.

I don't know if you're girlfriend still has the 2000 cougar, but the problem sounds like the fuel delivery module. I had the same problem. Turns out it is a factory recall and the dealership will fix it for free.
