My husband bought a 1991 Nissan Sentra. Unfortunatley he lives in New York
and I live in South Carolina. I am able to work on cars, but telling my
husband what to do is like trying to potty train a newborn. The problem he
is having:
THe car will start, but doesn't seem to be getting gas. I told him to
replace fuel filter. He went to replace fuel filter and broke the hose.
It's been a long time since I was under the hood of a nissan. Would he be
able to just cut out the bad place and insert the filter?

Thanks,

Loveoil

It depends on where the hose broke. I would replace the hose while
replacing the filter. The filter should not be changed without removing the
fuel pump fuse. After the new filter is in place and all the excess gas is
cleaned up then put the fuse back in. It might take a few seconds for the
fuel pump to pressurize, etc.

Well, you wouldn't have to remove the fuse completely. If the procedure
is anything like my 240SX, you would remove the fuse, crank the engine
serveral times to release pressure from the lines, then replace the
fuse. As long as the key *isn't* in the ignition, you should run no
risk of the system repressurizing, since there will effectively be no
power.
