1996 pathfinder SE 3.3L

I have some engine rattle that seems to be resinating down the b pipe on my
pathfinder. It happens around 1800 and 3000 rpm. I believe it could be to
the famous "exhaust manifold bolts" being sheard problem. It is at 94k, will
nissan do anything about this? I heard that they had extended the warrenty
to 100k?

Thanks

Could be - but aren't the manifold issues usually indicated by a "ticking"
noise rather than a rattle?

I had a rattle, that just turned out to be a broken hanger behind that cat
converter. I caused the cat to rest on one of the frame cross members
causing a rattle that resonated up front kinda like what you discribe.
Worth a quick look anyway as it's cheap/easy to fix.
Oops just noticed you've got a 96. I have a 94 but it could still apply...

Well what makes me think it is more than a heat shield loose or something is
the fact that I can hear a little bit of engine exhaust from the from of the
car. But still muffled. None the less I need to take a better look.

Anyone know anything about TSB 98-062A ? Something about a exhaust warrenty
extension.

Sorry I came in late on this thread but I have a 1996 Pathfinder. Is
it coming from the right (passenger) side manifold? If so, the right
side exhaust manifold has a problem and likes to crack down the
middle. Mine cracked with 60K plus miles on it but Nissan still fixed
it under warranty. This is a problem that Nissan is definitely aware
of.

my 94 pathfinder has the exhaust stud rattle too but only on startup, as
engine warms, the noise is gone

I heard an exhaust leak coming from the passenger side. That was my
first clue. I was able to see the crack without taking off the heat
shield with a small mirror. If that doesn't work for you, I would
suggest taking off the heat shield, look for manifold cracks and
inspect the studs and bolds holding it on.
