Post subject: Rochester Carb ?

| I have 75 Chevy with a 350 and a 4bbl Rochester carb, im having little trouble with the idling when the truck is in gear, it will idle smooth then when i put it in (D) it will idle like it wants to quit but when in park it will idle smooth, it doesnt blow smoke out that much. Im not to familiar with Rochester Carbs so is there any adjustments need to be made to make the truck idle smooth when its in gear?

Sounds like either idle mixture is in correct or you may have a small vacum leak too. Also check idle speed as it should be around 550 -600 RPM or so in gear (about 750-800rpm in neutral)

Try adjusting the air.2 "screws" at the base of the carb. at the front you might have to buy a tool at the parts store to adjust them. Also you could have a wire or plug breaking down under a load check that as well. The way I check them is have someone put it in drive (foot on the brake) and pull one wire at a time off the cap and notice engine change a good cylinder will make the engine run rougher and there will be no change with a bad cylinder.Just don't get shocked >> Stay informed about: Rochester Carb ? |

I checked the spark plugs and wire's in the dis cap and including the rotor and there's no sign of ware on them. I cleaned the inside of the distributer cap. I had the jets set before and it ran smooth, no problem with it when it was in gear, then last week it started acting up, im also wondering if it good be that im low on gas cause the needle mark was between 1/4 and Empty but usually it doesnt bother it and when it does run out of gas, it would just die out. Looking in front of the carb which two screws controls and idle and what does the other on the passenger side do? >> Stay informed about: Rochester Carb ? |

The one on the drivers side is your idle and there are actually two on the passenger side one to set the choke pull-off (top) and one at the bottom to set your fast idle. But the two on the base of the carb is your air mixture. >> Stay informed about: Rochester Carb ? |

When i drive it and shut off the ignition the engine will bog down, it should just shut rite off without making any noise when you shut off the ignition. Could that to be carb related also? >> Stay informed about: Rochester Carb ? |

That is what they call deiseling, when the motor wants to keep running after the key has been turned off.
This is usually caused by to fast of an idle or bad ignition timing, try checking the timing first... >> Stay informed about: Rochester Carb ? |
