Hello Alfisti!

I'm a newbie here and thinking of buying a GT and wanted to hear some owners
experiences. So if any of you GT owners have a few minutes I'd love to hear
what you have to say!

Thanks

Sporty, elegant and makes the heads turn.....recommended.

The car handles better than 156, especially back suspension is a lot better.

Had to wait 9 months (!!), but it was worth every second.
I have the 2.0JTS Distinctive version with naturel leather, Bose sound
system with CD/MP3 player, winter packs and 18" GTA rims with 225/40
Michelins.
Car corners like a go kart, hardly any wind noise (although frameless door
windows), dispite the tyre size hardly and road noise and still quite
comfortable.
I LOVE IT!!

I had one for a few months - didn't like it. I felt it was a worse handler
than the 156 and have since gone back to the 156. It was a little bit faster
engine for engine (1.9 JTD)

Practicality - the boot looks big but is long and flat and you will struggle
fitting a normal size kiddies chair in. Back seats a little bit of a squeeze
with four adults in the car - and then you only have two doors - so loads of
seat movement. Which loosens the seats and makes them rattle !

It is an head turner - but so is my 156 - Its a tad bit expensive and I lost
quite a bit for the 6 months I had one... Then again the 156 doesn't;t
depreciate that well either...

My opinion...

Family man... go for the 156...
Single, attractive and horney... go for the GT its a girlie puller.

Not an owner but I lived intimately with a V-6 Alfa GT for almost 3
weeks in Italy last fall (even drove it for five laps around Imola!).
The car seems well made, and reliable. This one was a well-used press
car but it had the leather seats (great) a manual 6-speed, and huge
Brembo brakes. The car understeers a little more than I like (read that
more than my personal Alfetta GTV-6), and doesn't have the performance
of the 147 GTA I had in Italy in the spring of 2003. First of all, it's
down on horsepower (250 vs 240), it's heavier, and has a longer
wheelbase. While it rides somewhat better than the 147 and has more
luggage space in it, it lacks headroom in comparison. Which brings me to
my biggest gripe with the car: The 1950's hot-rod 'chopped-n-channeled'
look with the narrow slit windows is a real pain in the ass; the fact
is, you can't see out of it very well and it makes the cabin seem
claustrophobic!

Of all the Alfas that AR has loaned me, I found the 147 GTA to be the
best by far, and the one that I would have most liked to take home with
me - if my !@#$%^ government would allow it!

Well, looks like you bought the wrong car. You want a sedan or a wagon, not
a coupe...

Hi,

I've owned a GT 1.9 JTD now for about 6 months. It's a great car!

Excellent performance, looks fantastic, superb handling and quite economical
(42 mpg). I know some people don't like the interior because of the high
waistline and small rear screen - but this doesn't bother me at all. So far
the car has been very reliable so I haven't had to call upon the services of
the Alfa dealership (thank goodness - Alfa dealerships - that's a whole
other story!)

My only criticism would be the suspension which transmits minor road
imperfections into the cabin worse than any other car I've owned. Even the
yellow lines pained across the road approaching a roundabout feel like
they're going to shake out your fillings! You can't even talk properly
because it makes your voice kinda "vibrato" for want of a better expression!

As always, I'd recommend pressuring your chosen dealership into a full days
test drive if possible.

Hope that helps!

Hi

Had my 1.9 JTD GT for 3 weeks now and it is worth every second of the long
wait to get it. The car looks stunning and handles really nicely. I disagree
with some descriptions of the ride quality as I think for a sports coupe
it's very comfortable indeed. Certainly it's not like gliding along in a
Lexus but then equally going around corners isn't like being on a boat.

The Bose stereo is really good if a little expensive as an option, and the
17" alloys are a must for the car to really look as it's meant to. In short
the car feels powerful and solid and 40mpg is pretty damn impressive for a
car like this. If you want a huge grin on your face every time you go for a
drive then go and test drive one right now! Smile

I test drove one (1.9JTD) and I have to say It felt no different what so
ever than my 1.9 JTD Alfa 156.

Do I decided not to upgrade...

I am thinking about it again though and wondered how do I widdle a whole
days test drive out them... Thats the only way I can appreciate a car - take
it where I want with out the mumbling salesman in the seat next to me
watching the speedometer...

I've bought a May 05 1.9JTD ex-demonstrator that is top spec. It's a stylish car inside and out & you can't tell it's a diesel as there is virtually no engine noise inside. The ride is a little firm but the handling is great. If you have big spoked alloys watch out if you live in the countryside - I've twice had to have the front wheels rebalanced after washing the car - the mud between the spokes will dry onto the flat rims and alter the weights - either don't wash the wheels (unless very carefully by hand) or move house. The dealership had not heard of this problem. Don't bother with the rain sensor wipers - they are crap at best and bloody annoying at worst - they go upto double speed when there's virtually no rain and scrape the screen noisily - I'm going to ask the dealer to check it & if they say it's how it should be I will ask them to disconnect it & return it to manual intermittent options. Rear passengers have been pleasantly surprised at the leg room. The Bose stereo is beautiful. I'm currently trying to locate a small vibration noise appearing at the rear nearside seat/parcel shelf that occurs on bumpy roads but have not noticed any noise from the front seats as indicated by another posting. Smile
