Not an owner but I lived intimately with a V-6 Alfa GT for almost 3
weeks in Italy last fall (even drove it for five laps around Imola!).
The car seems well made, and reliable. This one was a well-used press
car but it had the leather seats (great) a manual 6-speed, and huge
Brembo brakes. The car understeers a little more than I like (read that
more than my personal Alfetta GTV-6), and doesn't have the performance
of the 147 GTA I had in Italy in the spring of 2003. First of all, it's
down on horsepower (250 vs 240), it's heavier, and has a longer
wheelbase. While it rides somewhat better than the 147 and has more
luggage space in it, it lacks headroom in comparison. Which brings me to
my biggest gripe with the car: The 1950's hot-rod 'chopped-n-channeled'
look with the narrow slit windows is a real pain in the ass; the fact
is, you can't see out of it very well and it makes the cabin seem
claustrophobic!
Of all the Alfas that AR has loaned me, I found the 147 GTA to be the
best by far, and the one that I would have most liked to take home with
me - if my !@#$%^ government would allow it!
