I'm having serious problems installing a child car seat in the 2nd row
bucket seats of an 04 Nissan Quest. the child seat is flat at the
base, but the bucket seat is curved at the back, which doesn't give a
good fit between the 2. This creates a gap which prevents the two
from fitting snugly. in turn, this prevents the seat belt, when
connected, from holding the car seat tightly.

Is there some extra tether or kit I need to do this right? If so,
you'd think the dealer would've told me this since I only mentioned a
dozen times that I planned to put in 3 child car seats in it.

Never use the rear seat belts to hold your childseat in a new car
(after 2001). Your child will not be safe. All new cars have a new
method to install car seats. It's called the Latch system. You can
buy the new latch belt anywhere you buy carseats. The latch belt
hooks up to independant hooks at the back of the seat. You use the
normal tether system. You do not use the seat belt. The only place
a seat belt should be used in a 04 Quest is the middle rear bench
location. The latch system makes the child seat very tight and safe.
After the seat is in and tight, you can then adjust the seat back
angle to accommodate the design of you child seat.

I concur, you are better asking at a Quest-specific site like QuestDriver.com, a http://questdriver.com (Nissan Quest Forum)

However, you should be able to easily LATCH the seats (all 3) into place. Check with your local fire department, many offer free child seat fitting appointments. We did this with our Quest '05 and they really complimented how safe the vehicle appeared to be, and the 3rd row LATCH is somewhat rare. I did have to recline one of my seats a little bit to get a snug fit.
