After reading about *several* different auto detailing products that
supposedly specialize in bug residue removal, I really can't decide on one.
So, I thought that I would check in with other Lexus owners to see if there
is one particular product that stands out from the rest in popularity.

Is there any product that you guys find to be much more effective for
removing at least the majority of embedded bug residue from the hood and
front bumper fascia? Unfortunately, I've been extremely busy as of late and
didn't get around to hand washing my car until this afternoon. It was very
obvious that some bugs weren't washed off by hand in time to be easily
removed. I just hope that the residue can still be safely removed without
harming the paint if it's not already damaged from the bug acid. Sad

Thanks in advance!

Ron M.

I've used several different kinds of consumer bug and tar remover products.
They all work well except that they remove any wax on the finish as well so
you have to re-wax anyplace you used the stuff.

Simple Green works well in conjunction with a Dobie sponge - a sponge with
an outer jacket of plastic netting that you use on non-stick pans. The
Simple Green is a little kinder to the wax but it takes a little more work.
Do not use any type of Scotch-Brite products on the paint because they will
definitely scratch. If you're not sure, try it on the inside of your trunk
in an inconspicuous place first.

Check out a site www.detailking.com They have a product called "BUG OFF"
that has certain enzymes in it that dissolves the bug protein. Works like a
champ. For heavy bugs, you have to spray 2-3 times, but it's just like
Windex. Spray on wipe off.

Good luck

I've had pretty good luck with 3% hydrogen peroxide.

or get a Mr. Clean sponge. Works great on interior scuff marks as
well as bug guts on exteriors.

Follow-up with a coat of polish/wax.
