The dealers are telling me that the ECU is at fault and are looking for prices Sad Sad

Does any one know where I might get an Engine Control Unit?

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

Try this company

http://www.poweralfa.com/

Had a similar problem with my 155 2.0 TS 3 years ago. Alfa Agent wanted £650
to replace - fitting not included. - Although, knowing what my local
dealership is like, they would probably charged 2hrs labour to 'push, click
and screw' back into position.

And then the paintwork will have scratched by the YTS lad who was asked to
move the car because its now beneath the mechanics!!!

Anyone would think I've had a bad experiences with an Alfa Dealership in the
past Wink

I have some news Laughing

Not sure if it's good Crying or Very sad

Pipers said the ECU was faulty Crying or Very sad

They wanted £641 to replace it Crying or Very sad

I found a company in Poole, Dorset called AUTOTEC who will repair an ECU for £35 + postage. Laughing

They contacted me today to tell me that the ECU is not faulty and is working correctly.

Now I am back where I started Crying or Very sad

But at least I never spent the £641 to find out Laughing

Still need help though? Embarassed

Hey Quiz

TOLD YA!

Sorry but I couldn't resist it.

If the ECU is receiving a signal of several thousand degrees below zero then that is one problem that should be fixed. There may be others.

I had a degenerative problem on a 75. It started out by occasionally not returning to tickover correctly when I came off throttle, i.e. it would "run on" for a bit. Then it started missing beats and cutting out, only to restart and all would be well.

Eventually I got pissed off with it and took it to a Alfa specialist who replaced some of the HT leads and bingo, right as rain.

Seems the HT voltage was tracking back to the ECU and confusing the poor thing. The speciallist even replaced the ECU trying to sort the problem but (guess what?) that didn't help!

Hope you get it sorted

but I thought the main dealer was supposed to be an Alfa Specialist?

I need a better specialist?

Well, my ECU came back yesterday with an assurance that there was nothing wrong with it.

Pipers still insist that there is something wrong with it.

When put on the car, the engine management light stayed on and the engine cooling fans came on straight away. Same problem.

I had a mate come round for a look and between us we found that the clip on the plug on the temperature probe was broken, making the plug loose. (Pipers spent 4 hours looking round and testing before they diagnosed an ECU).

When the plug was wriggled, the fans went off and so too the engine management light.

WHAT DID THEY DO AT PIPERS FOR 4 HOURS? MAIN DEALERS??PAH!!

I have now cable tied the plug in place and will get another soon.

I still have the original flat spot on acceleration, but I can live with that for a while until I find a garage competent enough to have a look at it.

Hi Q

So why did your electrician mate who checked the wiring to the temp probe not notice it hanging off? Or Pipers for that matter?

I think you should ask some questions!

Glad you have it sorta fixed though.

I dont know Paulus, probably because he was checking the plug and wiring with the battery off the car for continuity.
the fault showed its self with the engine running almost by chance when touching the plug to make sure it was fully home.

I have sent a complaint letter off to the Dealer today

Complaint letter paid off, I got two thirds of my bill back from Pipers today.

My original 'Flat Spot' is still being worked on at Gonnella brothers at Catford it does not look like they are going to give up on it- they have had it for 3 weeks now! latest 'guess' is that the TURBO PRESSURE SWITCH could be the culprit?
