Hello every one, I'm a new member with a question regarding my 2.4 jtd.
The question is..Have I bought a 'DUD'
I have only had the Sportswagon for 2 months now and the mileage is on 60k.
My problem is that the car has developed a rather large 'flat spot' picking up from low revs. Sometimes when pulling out of a junction, the car just seems to stall, the engine is still running, the throttle is down, but the car just is not moving.
I don't know if the problem is electrical or mechanical?
when the turbo kicks in though, she goes very well with a fair jolt.
Has any one else had this problem?
any help appreciated,

Hey! I got a similar prob on my 146 2.0 ti.
Every few thousand miles it just dies on pull away. I release the throttle and re-apply, and all is well again.
I am just dreading the day all is not well again!
I figure it must be fuel starvation or something similar. Fuel Injection air flaps used to do something similar but I don't think they are used anymore?
Not much help I know but at least you are not alone!

That's interesting Paulus, is the 2.0ti petrol, or diesel (forgive my ignorance) if it is petrol, then the problem might be in the throttle and not the injection?
More help any one????

Hi Q
The 2.0 ti is indeed petrol engined, and I believe uses the same 2 Ltr lump as all the other 16 valve jobbies.
There must be some clever bugger on this forum with the answer!

Hello,
I had a similar problem with my 1.9 JTD. The Air mass meter was replaced and
after that the throtttle reaction in low revs was 100% better. It picks up
and keeps going. This was after 135.000 Km.

That would make some sort of sense as the air mass meter now carries out both the functions of the air flow meter and the air temp sensor, but I must admit to being surprised to find out they suffer the same kind of problem.

Thanks Henk,
where might I find that then?
Is it somewhere near the air filter?

More likely a normal one with a fault rather than a dud.

Are you sure this has *developed* - or have you just recently noticed
it?
>when the turbo kicks in though, she goes very well with a fair jolt.
At what revs are you talking about here? In first gear below about
1700rpm there will be a relative dead zone..hit the 1700-1800 in first
with a full throttle and you should get a *bang* of torque and off it
goes. This is normal and can be surprising to people not used to it.
IMO newer diesels aren't like the older ( > 5 year old) ones as they
need a few more revs on the clock to deliver the goods.

Hey Q
On re-reading your first post I am interested by the word "sometimes".
How often does this happen?
Paulus |
When it's just started and when I pull off the motorway are the worst times.
It is very sluggish to pull away at best, but almost stationary at worst.(despite my best efforts).

I'd agree with the MAF meter, my 2.4 had similar symptoms - low power, and
sluggish. New meter sorted it - not cheap though !

It's the little tube with a connector above the air filter.

Further to my last post - possibly also a Throttle Position Potentiometer
Sensor ?? (TPS) - Does a warning light happen at the same time ??
