Or to be more specific, would an alternator from a Hyundai Sonata fit/work
in a Ford Laser?

Other than the mounting locations, mounting points, connector
configuations, pully and belt configuations, and output amperage, they
are almost identical, which is to say, no they are not interchangable.

The alternators are specific to particular car models. So the alternator
from a Hyundai Sonata will not work in a Ford Laser.
