"ello folks" please tell me I havent buggered my transmission !!. I have a Nissan terrano R50 TD 2.7, I was driving home from work when it felt as though it was droping out of gear then picking up again. When I got home after driving about 12km I checked the trans fluid level which was low. I then checked for leaks and saw fluid spraying out of a cracked pipe from the trans oil cooler.

I have not started the engine since. Can I top up fluid then drive to my machanic who is about 6km up the road. Excuse my ignorance but i am new to automatics.

In the long run, it may well be cheaper to have it towed -- I would not risk
it. Also, you'd be leaking a quantity of a fairly nasty fluid into nature, and
that's something to avoid, if possible.
