Looking for a red 1995 to 1997 del Sol (Si or VTEC) with a manual
transmission & air conditioning. Must be in very good condition with less
than 100,000 miles. I can travel to almost any location in the USA to see a
vehicle.

I have gotten the impression that the roof seals in the pre-95s were more
prone to leak than the later models.

1994 Civic del Sol Si, 144,000+ miles, doesn't leak a drop.

Applying silicone grease at regular intervals helps keep the seals in
good shape, quiet, and leakproof.

sooner or later, all Sols will leak when the chassis starts folding/flexing.

First: Do you have a name?

Second: Please don't shout (i.e. turn off your caps lock).

I am familiar with AutoTrader.com . I flew from Atlanta to Allentown, PA
about a week ago to examine a red '97 del Sol listed in AutoTrader that I
thought might work. After viewing this vehicle I have decided not to pursue
it further. AutoTrader has a lot of vehicles from dealers. I don't have a
problem with dealers but I would like to make sure that I don't miss other
possibilities. Hence this post.

As to my budget...

I will pay a fair price for the right car... perhaps even more than fair if
I find the right car.

Do you have a car to sell? ...or is there some other reason for this post?

Best regards,

Scott

I believe that Honda redesigned the roof seal system for the 1995's and
above. You asked why I was interested in only these years and that is why.
I suppose any vehicle that is folding will have difficulties of some sort;
whether they be leaks or something more... ahem... structurally dramatic.

Scott

Glad to hear it! I've never owned a del Sol so it's good to hear from folks
that have extended experience with them. It is my understanding that there
was a TSB that addressed the leaking problem. Might your del Sol have
gotten "the fix"?

Best regards,

Scott Bosecker

Not sure if I had the leaks fixed or not. I did complain to the dealer once
when i was living in Jersey that there were some rattling noises in the roof
and they did something with it.

I think it also depends on the driver. IF you drive topless and whip the
car hard around the corners, then I suppose you will get some rattle and
flexes
as the car gets older.

One thing that I do faithfully every 3 months is that I wipe clean the roof
edges, the rubber around it and
follow up with a layer of silicone oil to protect it from the elements. as
well as putting greases
in the 2 aluminum rod that links the roof to the frame.

The one regrettable thing about MY DelSol was that I wish I had bought the
VTec instead of SI. 125 Hp
seems tame after a while.
