A tight credit market, slumping construction, an economy on bed rest,
an end-of-model year, and high gas prices mean one thing for pickup
trucks: lots of brand new trucks waiting for buyers. Dealers trying
to shift their 2008 Dodge Rams before the 2009s arrive are taking as
much as $13,000 off the bill to try and convince buyers to come
forth. That means you can get a Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4x2 for
$19,995, instead of $32,795.

With consumers being more picky about what and when they buy, it also
doesn't help that dealers really don't want trade-in trucks either,
since they can't do anything with them. What Dodge dealers hope for
now is that Chrysler will manage the build-out of the 2009 models to
give them a chance to get rid of the 2008s. Chrysler says it has a
plan that will keep it competitive and keep the changeover orderly.
For now, the Ram is the most heavily discounted vehicle out there.

For a dealer in Ohio, the matter of 120-day inventories really comes
down to gas prices. "Until we get gas under three bucks a
gallon," he said, "these pickups are not going to
move." We're sure that no one wants that to be true, because if
it is, there will be brand new 2008 Rams on showroom lots for a long
time.

I saw a ad a couple of days ago for a new 1500 for $13,000. I'm sure it is a
teaser, but it is a buyers market.

Agree it's a buyers market. Last month I purchased a 2008 Ram 2500, Quad
Cab, Long Bed, 4x4 out the door for $10k below MSRP. However it did take 4
days of negotiation.

Thats about the same as it's been for the past several years. I bought
my 2004 Hemi Durango for 13K under MSRP. Bought my 2001 1500 for 10K
under, bought my 2007 CTD 4x4 for 9K under (probably could have done
better).

Good deal, but 4 day's?? The dealer I use is no bs no fuss, it is what it
is. I doubt I've spent more than a one hour doing a deal with them. Oh, the
dealer is Elmwood Dodge in RI

Last year when we were just toying with the idea of buying a big 5th wheel
& hitting the road, I was looking at getting an '06 (end of model year)
1-ton CTD dually. The truck stickered at $50k and the dealer was ready to
let me have it for $36k drive-out. Fortunately we came to our senses and
didn't buy anything; no 5th wheel, no truck, nothing and renewed the CDs
we were thinking about cashing-in. Today that money sure looks a lot
better still in savings than it would parked in the driveway w/diesel
$4.28 a gallon.

Maybe someday...

LOL, is this a joke? Who in their right mind would pay anything more for a
1500 2WD SLT QC and even there, 20 grand for that is a lot of money and most
could do better.

If the MSRP is $33K then it must be fully loaded with every option.
Better to forgo a few and get a 2500.

The problem is that the SLT cannot get every option even in the QC and all
1500 series have a limited selection of power train options, even the
Laramine version of it. For $33K, you can get a fully loaded 2500 and with
the current price of diesel, even the Cummins version is around that number.

Yea I know. My first choice dealer that I wanted was no B.S. and no fuss.
I told him over the phone what I was looking for with all my options, etc.
He then sent me an email saying "The cost will be xxxx amount out the door".
Exactly what I was looking for, cost and all!

However the truck I wanted with options, etc. was very rare in my area for
over 300 miles (non Desiel). The only place that was local was this one
other dealer. My first choice dealer tried to make a trade but they just
wouldn't do it. I almost (I *should* have) ordered from the factory using
this dealer. Next time I will.
