Vw Passat Whining Noise

I have a 2000 Passat turbo that recently making a whining noise. This noise get worst everytime I accelerate. It sounds like a crying cat tied to my engine. I like to do some research before i took them to the shop. Could it be the fan belt? if it is, how do you think it would cost me? Please g..

2001 Passat with 76,000 miles. While making a turn (in either direction) and accellerating at the same time, a clicking/popping noise is heard coming from the passenger side. There doesnt seem to be any loose parts that are being rubbed while turning that are causing this happen. Any ideas? -th..
