Volvo 850 GLE

I hope someone can help us. We have recently bought a 1991 Volvo 850 GLE, for some reason no one can get the glove box open so we can get the manuals out and a light on the dashboard is lit up, we cant work out what it is or what it is for. I have goggled for online manuals and the only one I could find and download needed a password, which of course I had to buy. Is there any way I can find out what the light it sor or how to find a manual online for this car.
