Archived from groups: alt>autos>honda (more info?)

When I am in 1st or 2nd gear, I always get a loose feeling about the car
front end -- it clanks when fluctuating the gas pedal and makes me real
nervous. Changed both front half axle to no avail, and the alignment
guys said that the frontend is still tight. They said it may be the
clutch.

I also found that on the freeway, the gear lever shakes like the
vibrator of a porn star, and sometimes I have trouble getting into 1st
or reverse gear.

Anybody has any idea of what's going on? My mechanic buddy won't do
anything (and charge me) before a real problem occurs.

What kind of car is it, year and model? How long have you had this car? Is
it automatic or stick?

Well, it's real hard to tell without being there, but it sounds exactly like
my '90 Integra. The car's been in the family since new, and has been mine
for a good 6 years now. The gear lever and steering wheel both vibrate
fairly well, and have been doing so for a while. On a new Mazda Protege5
which my father purchased recently, I have noticed that it is extremely
'clanky' when fluctating the gas pedal in low gear. Basically, for a car
thats 15 years old, it sounds just fine to me. However, if it really
bothers you, I would look at any rubber bushings on the car, expecially at
the motor and transmission mounts, as it tends to get brittle and hard after
aging.
